Note to Artists:
The biggest obstacle that is holding up this Podcast is that artists have signed with
Management Companies, Distribution Companies, or Record Labels, etc. which have many
restrictions on how the artists’ music can be promoted and distributed. This is
understandable, as they are protecting their investment, but it means that we have some
hurdles to cross before we can present your material.
It is essential that you let us know who you are signed with so we can contact them for
permissions. Just because you wrote and recorded the music doesn’t mean you have full
ownership of it.
Note to Artists, Labels, Management, and Distribution Companies:
A Podcast is a downloadable format that is looked down upon by a majority of the companies
we have been negotiating with. To address this and to work with these companies, I will
explain our intended use of the artists’ material and the safeguards we have put in place to
better protect the artists you are representing.
Selling/Distribution of music:
We will never sell or distribute music from this site. We will be directing listeners to
sites where they can learn more about the artists and purchase their music. We are artists
ourselves, and we want other Artists, Labels, Management, and Distribution Companies to feel
comfortable and secure that our intent is only to promote.
Safeguards to prevent the stealing of imbedded music in our Podcast:
We have found with most agencies that adding our Podcast’s call sound (Tagline) and/or
talking over the last 10 seconds of the music is acceptable to assure them (the agency) that
there won’t be ripping of complete music going on. Frankly, it is much easier for a
listener with sound-grabbing software on their computer to copy music straight from sites
like MySpace than to remove it from a Podcast.
Please keep in mind that our intent is to promote the Artist--this is free promotion for
you. There are many pluses to having your music featured in a Podcast. As the show builds
momentum and there are new listeners, they have the option to listen to past episodes. They
can listen to a show wherever and whenever they want. The Podcast allows them to research
the band on their own time.
Promoting the episode’s content:
The goal in our Podcast is to keep artists’ names out there for continued promotion. We won’
t simply mention an artist once and forget about them; we want to continue to promote them.
With each episode, we will be posting a Blog and a downloadable document that will include
credits, links to artists’ websites, and links to sites that sell their music--essentially
making it easy for the listener to buy the artists’ music and direct them (the listener) to
the artists’ information sites as well.
Each episode will feature a news section where we will report any news an artist sends us,
once again giving the listener a reminder of which episode the artist was featured in.
